Bienvenidos and welcome to Corazón Sin Fronteras! My name is LauraLee, and I’m thrilled to share this journey with you. As a bilingual, bicultural woman from Southern Mississippi, I’ve spent much of my life teaching Spanish, working with English Language Learners (ELLs), and immersing myself in the beauty of Latin American culture. This blog is my way of blending my passions for language, travel, food, and cultural connection while embracing the rich diversity of the world around us.

And what better way to start this adventure than by exploring one of my favorite destinations: Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Old San Juan: A Treasure Trove of History and Beauty
Nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, Old San Juan is a living tapestry of history, culture, and breathtaking beauty. Walking along its cobblestone streets feels like stepping back in time, with centuries-old colonial buildings painted in vibrant hues of blue, yellow, and pink. The iconic El Morro fortress stands proudly, guarding the coastline as it has since the 16th century. Its walls, weathered by centuries of sun and sea, whisper stories of explorers, pirates, and a resilient people.
Puerto Rico’s rich history is woven into every corner of Old San Juan. From the grandeur of San Juan Cathedral to the charm of Paseo de la Princesa, the city’s blend of Spanish, African, and Taino influences creates a cultural mosaic unlike any other. Exploring Old San Juan is like walking through a museum that’s alive with music, food, and laughter.

No visit to Puerto Rico would be complete without a trip to Casa Bacardí, the world-famous rum distillery. Just a short ferry ride from Old San Juan, this iconic destination offers an unforgettable experience. You’ll learn about the Bacardí family’s journey from Cuba to Puerto Rico and how they turned their passion for crafting rum into a global empire. The tour takes you through the rum-making process, and, of course, you’ll get to enjoy a refreshing Bacardí cocktail as you take in the stunning views of the San Juan skyline.
